2024 MASK

CWCA artists explored MASKS ... masked, unmask, masking ... covering, uncovering, revealing, mardis gras, costume ball, trick or treat, criminals, disguise, ancient mask, tribal mask?
So, let's have some fun with this? OR NOT? After the politicization of masks for health or the conspiracy theories of control and harm ?

Let's look at the wild variety of masking and mask making both literally and symbolically or metaphorically.

How do we mask our real feelings?

How do we mask the truth either to protect someone or deceive someone?

Can we just be silly and playful, or is there a dark ominous intent in a mask?

Is the mask an ornament or does the mask signify a reality not so easily seen on the surface.

STARLINE, 300 Front St, Harvard, IL

Exhibition Dates: Oct 4, 2024 thru Nov, 9 2024

2024 FULL CIRCLE

CWCA artists explored FULL CIRCLE — The circle is a universal symbol with extensive meaning. It represents the notions of totality, wholeness, original perfection, the Self, the infinite, eternity, timelessness, all cyclic movement and feminine energy.
In conjunction with a series of exhibitions put on by nationwide chapters of the WCA. The 6000 Circles Project is a collaboration that focuses on the circle as a symbol of balance and unity, a never ending container of feminine energy and light. We are envisioning 6000 circles; created by a multitude of artists, of all genders, from around the globe, both groups and individuals, gathering and making for a series of interactive public and digital installations.

The initial inspiration came from the Obliteration Room created by Yayoi Kusama, where people were invited to place circle stickers spontaneously throughout the exhibition space, thereby creating an interactive and evolving installation. We would like to build upon this concept based on The Calling?s previous interactive installation as part of the Feminine Journey exhibition at the Beseder Gallery in Prague 2022. The intention is to expand its scope and reach to be a fully inclusive collaboration that honors all aspects of the feminine.

The circle is a universal symbol with extensive meaning. It represents the notions of totality, wholeness, original perfection, the Self, the infinite, eternity, timelessness, all cyclic movement and feminine energy.

Artworks touch on the theme of 'full circle' and all artwork is circular in shape and/or incorporates circular imagery.

The Chicago Women's Caucus for Art (CWCA) hosted our iteration with an exhibition at AIR Gallery, 348 Tudor Court in Glencoe, IL.

Exhibition Dates: Oct 25, 2024 – Nov 9, 2024
